Kentucky Soccer Sends Seniors Out With 1-0 Win | Big Blue Times card

Kentucky men's soccer closed its home schedule with a 1-0 win over Georgia Southern on Friday night at the Bell Soccer Complex in Lexington, sending the Wildcats' seniors out on a winner.

It was Senior Night and Alumni Night in Lexington. Kentucky honored seniors Schaerer, Sinan Solmaz and Fredrik Skilberg before kickoff and recognized six program alumni at halftime. The Cats then made a single goal stand up for 90 minutes against a Georgia Southern side that came in seventh in the Sun Belt table.

The win is a needed lift for Kentucky, which entered the night with one win all season, and it is the Cats' second Sun Belt win of the fall. Georgia Southern, drops a second straight one-goal decision after falling at home to West Virginia last week.

It also extends a series Kentucky has handled lately. The Wildcats upset a ranked Georgia Southern team in Statesboro last season, and Friday's result gives Kentucky four wins in seven all-time meetings.

Goal scorer, assist and shot totals were not yet posted on the ESPN or UK Athletics match pages at publish time. This story will be updated in place with the official box score and any match highlights once they are available.

Final score: Kentucky 1, Georgia Southern 0. Venue: Bell Soccer Complex, Lexington. Sources: ESPN (gameId 401899252), the NCAA.com match page, and UK Athletics' match preview. When UK Athletics posts its official box, its numbers win if the two disagree.

What's next for Kentucky men's soccer: the Wildcats close the regular season on the road at Georgia State on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
