Five-Star Center Lewis Uvwo Picks Providence Over Kentucky: What the Miss Means for UK's 2027 Board | Big Blue Times card

Big Blue Nation, this one is confirmed. Lewis Uvwo, the five-star center from Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, committed to Providence on Wednesday, picking the Friars over Kentucky, Baylor and Cal. He announced live on CBS Sports HQ. A Nation of Blue report at 4:27 p.m. ET framed the same miss for Kentucky's recruiting board.

Uvwo is the No. 7 overall prospect in the 2027 class and the top center in the 247Sports Composite. The Nigeria native stands 6-foot-10 with a wingspan of nearly 7-foot-6 (247Sports via CBS; On3 lists him 6-foot-11), and he was the defensive player of the year on the Nike EYBL circuit. He took visits to Kentucky, Cal and Baylor, then made his official visit to Providence last month. Bryan Hodgson, in his first season running the Friars, closed the deal. On3's Jack Pilgrim reported the final choice came down to Providence and Baylor.

"What stood out to me about Providence were the people, the culture, and the way they made me feel throughout the whole process," Uvwo told 247Sports' Eric Bossi, as cited by CBS.

Our take — what it means for UK's board

This was a swing at the exact piece Mark Pope's 2027 class is missing. Kentucky has one commitment in the cycle, DME Academy wing Ryan Hampton, who picked the Cats back in June. A rim-protecting center with Uvwo's length was the obvious next piece, and Providence beat everyone to it. Losing a head-to-head battle with a first-year Big East coach won't sit well with fans already asking about Pope's high school recruiting.

It isn't a wipeout of the board, though. The center spot still has a real option: 7-foot-5 Cherif Millogo of St. Francis in La Canada Flintridge, California, took an official visit to Lexington on Oct. 9, and On3's Joe Tipton logged a prediction for Kentucky. If Millogo lands, losing Uvwo will look a lot smaller on the same board.

The other big name still open is five-star guard Adan Diggs, who is down to Arizona, Arkansas, Kentucky and USC. He officially visited UK on Oct. 22-23, saw the Texas Tech exhibition at Rupp, and is aiming to decide in mid-November.

Bottom line: Uvwo to Providence is a real miss, but Pope's 2027 class will be decided by the next two calls on this board — Millogo and Diggs. We'll be watching both.
