Will Stein Named On3 Midseason Coach of the Year, Lance Heard First-Team All-American

Will Stein's first year in Lexington just got a national stamp. On3's Chris Low named the Kentucky coach his Midseason Coach of the Year on Tuesday, ahead of UCLA's Bob Chesney, Utah's Morgan Scalley and BYU's Kalani Sitake.

The case makes itself. The Cats are 6-1 and 4-1 in the SEC, tied with Georgia atop the league, with three wins over ranked teams. Per UK Athletics, Stein is the first Kentucky coach to start 6-1 in his first season since 1913. A year ago this program went 5-7.

Left tackle Lance Heard made On3's midseason All-America first team, too. The 6-6, 325-pound senior was SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week after the comeback at South Carolina.

Our Take: Nice hardware, but nobody hands out trophies in October. Vanderbilt visits Kroger Field Saturday (5:30 PM MT, SEC Network).
