UK Saturday Scoreboard: Rifle Beats Akron 4718-4693 to Stay Unbeaten | Big Blue Times card

Busy Saturday around UK Athletics before the football Cats kick off at Oklahoma tonight. Here's where things stand.

Rifle: Kentucky 4718, Akron 4693 at Barker Hall. The Wildcats shot 2341 in smallbore and 2377 in air rifle, per UK Athletics and the official NCAA scorecard. Akron posted 2331 and 2362, a season-best aggregate for the Zips.

Sam Adkins and Braden Peiser tied for the top score in the match at 1183, each with a 586 in smallbore and a 597 in air rifle. Freshman Maggie Palfrey added a 1175, sophomore Jacob St. Hilaire a 1170 and freshman Iva Rakonjac a 1160. Akron's Kathleen Moran led the Zips with a 1177.

UK Rifle is now 3-0 on the season. "Saw some good things and also a lot we need to work on as we continue to progress as a team," head coach Harry Mullins said. Next up is a trip to Nebraska on Saturday, Oct. 24.

Swimming & Diving: South Carolina edged Kentucky 393-390 this morning at The Dual Meet Tournament in Atlanta. Full swim & dive story.

Softball: The Cats host Marshall in a fall exhibition at John Cropp Stadium this afternoon (SEC Network+). We'll add the final here when it's in.

Our Take: A 25-point win over a team that just posted its best score of the year is a good Saturday. Two shooters at 597 in air rifle is the kind of top end that wins big matches in March.
